Multitasking is not a particularly common practice:
When asked about this photo in which he is simultaneously taking to a friend and reading the news, this respondent laughed and said that he doesn't often find himself using two devices at once, he isn't busy enough to need to do so. Given the prevalence of smart phone ownership and the low usage of computers to access the Internet in Chinese rural areas, people are not particularly likely to find themselves in a situation of using multiple media at the same time.
When I explained to people in the town that the reason that I took this photo was because it demonstrated the practice of multitasking, they did not seem to identify with this practice or the idea that it might be rude or problematic to split one's attention between different ICTs.
